It is my pleasure to welcome you to The Hearst Family Website.  Countless hours were spent researching in an attempt to locate a genealogy website for my ancestors who originated from Greenwood, South Carolina.  To my knowledge, this is the first that provides information about my Great Great Grandparents George and Melissa Lifford Hearst and their children.

This genealogy project was inspired by two factors.  One, from July 4 to 7, 2003, I attended the Hearst Family Reunion in Atlanta, Georgia.  This was the fifth reunion sponsored by my “newfound” cousins Rev. John C. Hearst  of  Atlanta, Georgia, Genelle Hearst Sligh-Henderson of Philadelphia, PA and Bessie Lee Hearst-Calhoun of Greenville, SC—and the first that I was privileged to attend.  Titled, “The Reunion of Reunions,” the event proved to be an emotional and spirit-filled journey that mandated the production of this website.

The second reason for this project relates to a required assignment for a technology course related to my doctoral studies at Wilmington College in New Castle, Delaware.  My options included a 7-10 page technology-related research paper, an annotated bibliography, or the design of an official “uploaded” website.  As you can see, I chose the latter because it held promise for a much more rewarding and exciting task.

This website is dedicated to our ancestors—those known and unknown to many of us—who have transitioned to a glorious life.  Thank you for the name, the legacy, and the memories that will forever be treasured in our hearts and minds.
