Blessed and motivated by a rich musical [and spiritual] heritage, it is my aspiration to carry on the
legacy left by members of my family. I started singing at the age of nine at the Second Timothy Baptist Church
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under the leadership of the late Rev. Richard Smallwood (father of the reknowned Richard
Smallwood). My singing career spans nearly 40 years and includes featured soloist with the Voices of
Fellowship Gospel Choir, the Intermezzo Choir Ministries, and the Hearst Family Singers.
Along with the Voices of Fellowship, I performed in Arthur Miller's musical adaptation of "The Creation of
the World and Other Business" in 1975. In 1991, I was featured as Nefertiri in the late Lacosta Broyles' version
of the musical drama "Joseph" performed by the Mount Carmel Players. My recordings (on two Voices of Fellowship
albums), "Real Good" and "Savior Pilot Me," could be heard nearly every Sunday morning over
WDAS-AM during the late 1970s and early 1980s. On October 24, 2004, I was featured in
"The Harvest Yet to Come," a musicale/narrative celebrating the life of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune written by Dr. Horace Boyer
and Dr. Carver Portlock.
On November 24, 1991, I performed my debut solo concert in memory of my father, the late Rev.
James Robert Hearst. I have been a member (and soloist) of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Choir in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
for more than 10 years. During my career, I have appeared as guest soloist for a number of religious,
fraternal, community, and social events. Music is my ministry.
